OUR VESSEL AND RESCUE EQUIPMENT

The Boat - 'Alexander Cattanach'
Kyle lifeboat stations boat is on standby 24 hrs a day. Its fuelled, serviced and ready to go as soon as it returns from a call so that in an emergency it can return to the water immediately.

Its is powered by twin Yamaha 70 HP outboard motors which give the craft a top speed of 32 knts. The craft is hightly manouverable and can turn almost in its own length. Its stability in the hands of an experienced skipper in high seas is excellent.

 

 
 

The vehicle
To complement the rescue boat is the rescue vehicle a Land Rover. which is equipped with a special launch trailer with which the boat can be deployed in seconds.

The vehicle is equipped with a winch at the front, a radio and of course various essential boat support supplies.

 

 

Comms
The main communications device is the VHF radio which allows the crew to stay in touch with the station at all times through the use of integrated headphones and microphones in the safety helmets.

Other Safety Equipment
Each member of the crew wares a dry suit so that in the 'unlikely' event he ends up in the sea his life jacket, and survival suit give him the optimal chance of survival. Essential head protection is afforded by the safety helmet each crew member. carries, flares .,
